In the Kayan culture, long necks symbolize beauty and prosperity. The Kayans are also sometimes referred to as the Long Necked people or the Giraffe people. The giraffe, with its long neck reaching into the heavens, symbolizes the ability to see the future and obtain things that seem out of reach. When your life is chaotic, giraffe reminds you to keep your head up and avoid getting entangled in needless arguments; as an animal ally, the giraffe encourages you to “take the high road.”
The neck also has great symbolism. It is the point of connection between the head and the body, the upper and the lower. It is the bridge. All bridges help us to cross over into new realms and new perceptions. The long neck, in combination with the giraffe’s exceptionally keen eyesight, makes it a powerful totem for far-sightedness and for seeing what lies on the horizon for you.
